Blogging

June 2, 2006

So far, blogging has been fun.. It’s good that we learned blogging. Without it, there would be nothing to do at home. And it has thought me many things. But it is very tiring because of too many posts I have to put up and comments. But it was worth it. It’s a good experience.

Blogging also helps me in my other classes because it is a good place to remind you of things.

I think I have been following the rules. I am not sure. But it is easy to follow the blogging rules.

Anyways, the conclusion is that Blogging is really fun and can help you in your studies.

Here’s another ethical dilemma.

Brendan was in third grade when he was caught cheating on his math quiz. He had been doing poorly in math and his parents had threatened that if he didn’t raise his grades they wouldn’t let him play on the baseball team. So he cheated. When the teacher asked him about it, he denied it at first, but finally admitted to writing down the answers ahead of time.

A parent conference was called and Brendan had to sit with his parents, the teacher, and the principal to discuss the school policy on cheating and lying. On the way home, his father told Brendan he was deeply disappointed in him and expected more from him in the future. That night, Brendan felt like the whole world was against him, but he also felt guilty for letting his parents down.

That weekend, Brendan and his family went to a movie. When they got to the ticket window Brendan’s dad asked for children’s tickets for both Brendan and his 16 year old brother. Brendan looked over at his brother, who stared down at the sidewalk and hunched his shoulders hoping the ticket seller wouldn’t notice that he was well above the age for a child’s ticket. The ticket seller glanced suspiciously back and forth between the father and the brother, and then, with a doubtful look on her face, she handed them the the two child’s tickets. This happened every time they went to the movies, and it always made Brendan feel weird.

On the way home from the movie, Brendan asked his father why it was okay to lie and cheat the theater out of money but not to cheat on his math quiz. His dad responded that sometimes its okay to lie as long as nobody gets hurt.

The rest of the way home Brendan just got more and more confused. Cheating on his test hurt nobody. He didn’t steal the answers from any of the other students. If he hadn’t gotten caught, he would have been praised.  How was what he did different from what his dad did over and over again? And should he continue to stay silent the next time his dad lied?
  • What is Brendan’s dilemma?
    Brendan cheated.
  • Have you ever seen an adult or friend do something you felt wasn’t right? What did you do? How did it make you feel? I’ve seen my friend do something really messed up but I didn’t say anything because he is my friend. But it made me realize that he wasn’t a good friend. (This happened in the states! Just saying)
  • Do you think Brendan should try to talk to his Dad again about his lying at the movies?  I don’t really think it is necesary because the dad already told him that it doesn’t hert anyone.
  • Who might Brendan have hurt by cheating on his quiz? The person he copied from and probably his friends because it is telling them that he can get answers from your paper.
  • Brendan’s Dad said it was okay to be dishonest if no one was hurt. Who do you think might have been hurt by his lying at the movie ticket office? The Movie Ticket manager and his assistance because they need the money.
  • Have you ever felt like doing (or have you actually done) the “wrong thing” because you felt like it was worth it? Do you still feel that it was worth it? One time, I felt like getting somthing from someone I hated before and I thought later on that it wasn’t worth it. Now I think is is USELESS!

Being yourself

May 26, 2006

Hello people! Today I am going to talk about being yourself and I am also going answer questions which you can too. Just comment me. Anyways, here’s how to be yourself.

HOW TO BE YOURSELF

It’s not always easy to be ourselves. Sometimes, when we’re with other people, we make choices or act in ways that are different from when we’re alone. Here are some ways to prevent that from happening.
• Know your values and stay true to them.*
• Make your own choices, don’t just go along with the crowd.
• Respect yourself.
• Think about your goals and act accordingly.

Think about these questions and see how you answer them.

1. When somebody says “just be yourself,” what does that mean? I don’t think there is a meaning to that. I just think of it as just be yourself.

2. Is it always easy to be yourself, or can it sometimes be difficult? Why? How? Give examples. For me, I think it is easy to be myself at home because it’s my home and all around me are my family. It is difficlut to be myself in school or in different places because…well…..I’m not really sure. But I mean, in school, I’m technically with my family, which are my classmates, because I stay with them most of the day. I think it is a natural thing but it’s very hard to explain.
3. A lot of kids around talk about “fitting in.” What does “fitting in” mean? How do you do it? Well, I think fitting in is like joining or being part of a group for a certain thing. I usually fit in because I am not myself. I try to be like them so I can fit in. Many people aren’t themselves when they try to fit in.

4. Is it true that there is a lot of pressure in this school? What do you have to do to fit in here? Not really. You just have to be yourself and then friends will come to you. But to tell the truth, it is hard to be yourself. But that is a good way to get friends. BE YOURSELF!
5. Does fitting in ever make it hard to be yourself? Yes like I said in question 3 and question 9.
6. What if you don’t fit in? Is that okay, or does it mean there’s something wrong with you? If you don’t fit in, that just means your different. Being different is a good thing. But there is nothing wrong with yourself.
7. Are there groups here in school? Cliques? (Gangs) What are they? There are many groups in this school but not really gangs. Well, maybe a lot of gangs. It depends on the definition. Gangs can mean groups of friends like I am in a gang with my friend and gangs can also be people who bully people and do illegal stuff like….stealing.
8. Why do these groups exist? What do they do for the people in them?I think the bad gangs exist because there is nothing to do, they get drunk so they bully people, they think it is cool, and many more things. I think the good gangs exist because friends always have to talk in a group.
9. Does being in a group sometimes make it harder to be yourself? How? In what way? Examples? Yes. Like I said in question 3, it is very hard to be in a group with out being yourself. You try to act like them. (EXAMPLE OF SOME ONE ELSE……NOT GOING TO TELL YOU WHO IT IS!) I try to fit in with the popular people so I act popular when actually I’m not.
10. Are there pressures to fit into these groups? If so, describe the pressures. Yes there are. You have to do what they want you to do, you have to sometimes do crazy things, you usually get in touble, etc.

situation that happened in the real lifves of middle school students in some school in the U.S.

May 19, 2006

Today, Our teacher told us to read his blog and we did. It is about school problems. Here is the story:

Julia was in 6th grade and had been at her school since kindergarten. Her two best friends were Wendy and Erin. Erin was the most popular girl in the class and all the girls saw her as the leader. One morning Julia arrived at school and Erin was acting weird. When Julia said hi to her, she didn’t respond. She just looked away and smiled at a group of girls in the corner of the classroom.

It didn’t take long for Julia to figure out that Erin had turned most of the girls against her. But, she didn’t know why! She went to Wendy and asked her why Erin was mad at her. Wendy acted nervous and said that all she knew was that Erin told her that if she hung out with Julia, none of the rest of the girls would talk to her anymore.

The rest of that day lasted forever. Whenever the teacher was looking everyone was nice to Julia. But, when her back was to the class, Erin or another girl would throw pieces of paper toward Julia or whisper to each other and look in her direction. Julia thought Wendy would help her but Wendy just pretended nothing was happening.

That night Julia talked to her parents and they told her to wait and see if tomorrow was better. If not, they said, perhaps they could help Julia talk to Erin and work through the problem. Julia felt like that would make her look stupid if everyone found out that her mom and dad had to get involved. She knew that sometimes the class would pick on someone, but she never thought her friends would turn against her and do the same thing to her. She felt like she didn’t have any friends and nobody liked her.

The next day was even worse. No one wanted to hang out with her at recess and she had to sit by herself at lunch. At the end of lunch she went into the girls’ bathroom. While she was there, a girl from her class came in and said that Erin had sent her in and that Julia had to take off her shoes and send them back to Erin or no one would talk to her tomorrow. Julia just wanted to go home. She didn’t want to cry but she was confused and hurt and scared. She gave the girl her shoes.

Now she was late for class and was in the bathroom with no shoes. She headed to class and walked in quietly with her head down. Before she could get to her chair, the teacher asked her why she was late and where her shoes were.

Here was her dilemma. What should she do now? Everyone was watching her. If she told the teacher about Erin and the girls ganging up on her she would look like a snitch, and who knows what the kids would do to her after that. But, if she didn’t say anything or lied to the teacher, she would get into trouble.
These are the questions that I am going to answer.
What do you think Julia should do now?
I think that Julia should just ask the teacher if she can talk to him/her privately and tell him/her why this is happening nad probably the teacher might help.
Why do you think Wendy didn’t stick up for Julia?
I think she didn’t stand up for Julia because she didn’t want to embarras herself and she didn’t want to be hated and Julia is.
Has this sort of thing happen ever happened to you or to someone you know?
Not really to me but this did happen to my friend. What happened was they told me to be cool and not hang out with my friend. I didn’t hang out with him for a while but then I found out that the people that didn’t want me to hang out with him were abusing him and controling him. So I appologized to the person and we were back as friends.
Have you ever been in Wendy’s position? Erin’s?
Yes. I have been in Erin’s position.
How do you think this situation would be different if the case involved boys instead of girls?
I think this situation would be worse because boys like me fight, no offense girls, or get into fights and sometimes it is very hard to stop. If the people who were following the popular person were abusing the person that is in Julia’s position, he can easily get beat up.
Why do you think people pick on others, and why do others join in?
I think people pick on other people for friends nad maybe because of past issues. Many people also join in because they want to be a friend or they want to be popular.
What do you do when you see or hear someone in your class making fun of someone? Do you join in? Speak up for the person? Say nothing? Why do you think you react that way?
What I should do is try to stop this thing and I won’t join in. I should also speak up for the person so the person won’t get hurt or anything worse. I think I react that way because it is the right thing to do.
Have you ever felt that a good friend turned his or her back on you? What happened and what did it feel like?
Yes I have felt it before. Here is the story: I was best friends with two guys in this school I am in right now which is St. Johns School. He was my best friend last year and part of this year. Until one day, we were playing in the soccerfield for P.E. While we were playing, He kicked the ball right at my stomach and I fell. Some of the popular kids were laughing and he wants to be popular so he started laughing too. So I got mad and ran up to him and pushed him. I went away then he ran up to me and kicked me. So I held him so he couldn’t punch me and I kicked him while he was kicking me. Then we got separated for a while. Then after, we were still playing, he ran up to me, put me in a head lock, and threw me to the ground. I got up and everyone in our class held us apart. Then P.E. was over.
I got in to that fight and it didn’t really fell that good. Him and I were friends for a long time and now, because of that fight, it didn’t really feel like a thing that I finally expirienced.

Personality Test for Teens

May 16, 2006

Today, we did a perssonality test for teens. It makes us know what type of person we are. There is a scale of Type C, from 1 to 50, Type B, from 50 to 99, and Type B, which is 100 straight. Here is what it means:

About Type A and Type B Personality

According to scientific literature, Type A behavior is characterized by an intense and sustained drive to achieve goals and an eagerness to compete. Personalities categorized as Type A tend to have a persistent desire for external recognition and advancement. They are involved in various functions that bring about time restrictions. Such personalities have a tendency to speed up mental and physical tasks with extraordinary mental and physical alertness. These characteristics make for super-achievers and high-powered people.

Type A individuals can get a lot done and have the potential to really move ahead in the world. But there is a high price to pay. Certain components of such a personality can inhibit happiness and even threaten health. For example, the goals that Type A folks set are often poorly defined and therefore hard to achieve—a perfect recipe for misery.

Type A is also characterized by a general discontentedness and the impulse to be overly critical and demanding, even contemptuous of imperfection, in the self and others. This focus on negative aspects and the accompanying bursts of hostility, impatience result in guilt, remorse and anxiety.

Type A personalities are motivated by external sources (instead of by inner motivation), such as material reward and appreciation from others. Type A folks experience a constant sense of opposition, wariness, and apprehension–they are always ready for battle. And anyone can imagine how this constant (and very exhausting) existence would deplete reserves of contentment and happiness and disrupt personal equilibrium.

Although the literature is somewhat inconsistent because of problems with the conceptualization and definition of Type A behavior patter, it has been linked to higher risks of cardiovascular diseases. The risks seemed to be reduced with intervention aimed at reducing Type A behavior. Indeed, those with a high Type A score would be happier and healthier if they were to file down the jagged edges of their personality. By learning how to control the negative behavior patterns while preserving their drive, Type A people can be successful without sacrificing their emotional well-being.

Type B behavior is usually defined as the absence of Type A behavior. Type B personalities are relaxed and have a laid-back attitude and posture. They are friendly, accepting, patient, at ease, and generally content. They are at peace with themselves and others. They show a general sense of harmony with people, events, and life circumstances. They tend to be trusting. They focus on the positive aspects of things, people and events. Type B folks are self-encouraging, have inner motivation, are stable and have a pleasant mood. They are interested in others and accept trivial mistakes. They have an accepting attitude about trivial mistakes and a problem-solving attitude about major mistakes. They are flexible and good team members. The Type B person is able to lead and be led.

My personality type is Type B. Here is my score and what it also means.

Your score = 67 Your score

What does your score mean?

You seem to have Type B personality. Your attitude towards life is more of the “smell the roses” kind and you know how and when to relax. Nonetheless, you realize that picking up a challenge and competing a little bit for your place in the sun can add some spice to your life. Generally, you are easy to be around, and people tend to feel relaxed and comfortable in your presence. The equilibrium is important, so don’t let your hostile, aggressive, and competitive alter ego take over too often. Yours is a very healthy attitude towards life.

I think my score was a correct score.

Mother’s Day

May 16, 2006

Hello People!

My family didn’t…sorry to say… but we didn’t celebrate Mother’s Day, although, I did give her a gift. I gave her a card from and not from my brothers that said….umm….I forgot……I also got her a card from all of us that said…..umm……I also forgot….And last, I gave her candy. The type of candy that she loves. It is: 100 grand candy.jpg100 grand!

She love it because it is chocolate with caramel inside. Anyways, I hope my mom enjoyed the present. I guess now I should think about what I will get for my dad for Father’s Day!

If there was a holiday I could make, It would be Kid’s Day so kids will have a chance to have power and rule the world!…Just Joking! But if we could do that, It should be on April Fools Day!

That’s all the time I have right now. Bye People!

#16- Cultural differences

May 9, 2006

Today, out teacher told us about this person in Canada, Luc, being criticized about how he eats.

  • What do you think of this issue? I think that this issue is messed up because every person eats in there own way. I am Filipino and I eat with a fork and a spoon. There is nothing bad about eating the way you want. He shouldn’t be criticized.

  • How do you feel about this? I feel sad about this because I am Filipino. I eat that way too. So if I were there, I would be punished and put in another table. I wouldn’t like it. Would you?
  • You recently studied about Canada. Why do you think the adult and the principal acted this way? How would you feel if you were Luc? I think the principle and the adult did that because they wanted everything to be the same in there place. They wanted to catch attention and show the people that Canadians are the best. And that is just messed up. I don’t think Filipinos are the best. I don’t think Koreans or Japanese are the best. They are all equal. God didn’t make the Canadians the best of all ethnicities. He made it equal.
  • What would you do if you were Luc? What I would do is not to care because I have have any right to eat that way and the don’t have any right to punish me. It’s my way of eating. What’s the problem?

  • Continue thinking about this incident and write about what’s wrong with the whole thing. This whole thing is very wrong. People there are racist like the principle and the Lunch moniter. What I mean by that is that it is a Filipino manner. Almost every Filipino eats that way. People have different ways of eating.

  • Would you want to be in a school like this? Not at all because the people there treat you like an outsider.
  • Do you know what discrimination is? Discrimination is unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice. Which also can mean being racist.
  • Have you discriminated against someone? How? Is this still going on?  Actually, I discriminated this person and that person discriminated me. Well he has been treating me so bad so I treat him the same way. I treat everyone very nicely but I didn’t to him.
  • What would you do if you feel you have been discriminated by somebody? I would feel like I am a person that is not accepted in this place. I would feel like and outsider. Lonely.
  • Do you have friends from ethnic backgrounds that are different from yours? I have many friends that have different ethnicity such as Korean, Chinese, and Japanese.
  • Do you feel that they have to be like you for them to continue being your friends? No way! It’s good that everyone is different. In that way, we get to learn there ethnicities.
  • Do you feel you have to change ways that are common to your ethnic background so that your friends will keep on being your friends? No way! I am who I am. No one can change that. Well, me of course.

The summary of these answers is that no one wants to be criticized. I wouldn’t. Would you?

Cross-Country race

May 4, 2006

Today, May 4 2006, St. John’s Cross-Country team had a meet or a race in Tiyan. Every team has a girl’s division and boy’s division. I’m obviusly on the boy’s division with Isaac, Nick, Nick, Daniel, Jared, Loui, and Kristopher.Well, there are two Nick’s so I will make it easier for you with numbers. Nick-1 is the fast and most experienced, and Nick-2 is the slow but good stamina person. Anyways, in the girl’s divison, there is Raine, Raisa, Sophie, Margaret, Alyssa, Christina, Hannah, and Kandis. Margaret started late but she is still a good runner.

We went against two schools: San Vicente and Bishop. San Vicente had white shirts. Thats all I remeber though. Anyways, I got a good place especially knowing I’m in the boy’s division. My place was 18th place out of I think 103. Isaac, my best friend and my running partner who could run but was hurt, tried very hard even though he had a problem. I don’t think he will want me to tell you his place, but it was very good knowing he was hurt. Raine was very good. He got the same time as me and she got 5th place, I think, but she is always really good. Sophie, one of our top runners, got a really good time and good place. She got 4th place. Raisa twisted her ankle and fell during the race. I don’t really know what happened but if she didn’t fall, she could of got an awesome time and place because she is also our top runner with Raine and Sophie. I think Kandis was ready because the day before, she came to me and wanted to run another mile. So I went with her. She is a really good runner. Nick-1 is also our top runner. He is really fast. He got a really good place and a really good time. He got 14th place. That is very good.

Congratulations Raine, Sophie, Isaac, Nick-1, Kristopher, Alyssa, Jared, Loui, Christina, Raisa, and Kandis. Nick-2, Daniel, and Hannah didn’t show up but I know they could of got a good time and place. Margaret went but was not allowed to run because she didn’t attend the amount of practices she needed to yet. But hopefully she will get a good time in the next 2 meets!

#15b- Poem about myself

April 29, 2006

i am an athlete and a rapper

i wonder how it feels like to be famous

i hear the song “You’re Beautiful” everyday

i see famous people most of the time

i want to go to heaven

i am an athlete and a rapper

i pretend that the whole world needs me

i feel bad for the people who are suffering

i touch

i worry that i will get a bad grade in class

i cry when i fell pain

i am an athlete and a rapper

i understand that no one is perfect

i say that there is no team with out teamwork

i dream that one day i will be rich

i try to get good grades so i dan go to a good college in the states

I hope i can see my dad again

i am an athlete and a rapper

i worry that there will be a war in Guam one day

i cry when i see people getting hurt

i am an athlete and a rapper

i understand that you can’t have everything

i say that no one should fight

i dream that someday, the world will be peaceful

i try to understand people that can’t be understood

i hope i will be in the track team again next year

i am an athlete and a rapper
